Medical Emergency Training
Aims and objectives
- To understand how to recognise and treat an unwell patient
- To be aware of what equipment should be available with the practice in line with current RCUK guidance
- To understand the role you should play as part of the team should a medical emergency occur
- To understand the principles of the structured A-E approach in assessing and treating a seriously ill patient
Learning Outcomes
- Users will be able to identify emergency equipment and know how and when it is to be used
- Users will be able to answer post course questions relating to the modules listed
- Users will be able to state what equipment and drugs may be needed to deal with a medical emergency
- Users will be able to explain the structured approach for the management of the unwell patient
- Users will be able to list the drugs used for specific medical emergencies
- Users will be able explain current CPR /AED guidance for both adults and Children
- Users will be able to reflect on current knowledge & skill

Dave Edwards has over 25 years’ experience within the field of resuscitation and emergency care. He is a course Director for the UK Resuscitation Council ALS and ILS course and also the Advanced Life Support Group APLS course and a Resuscitation Council instructor who teaches other potential instructors to teach.
This module does not replace face-to-face learning with an appropriate educator, such as an experienced Resuscitation Officer, however we do recommend this online learning as part of a blended learning approach
